Many years ago …
My Mother was expecting her 3rd child. She already had 2 beautiful little girls, one just barely a year old. So she was hoping GOD would send her a son. So she ate lots of food, and gained lots of weight, and kept telling herself, “I know this one is going to be a boy!” Back in those days, there were no ultrasounds to tell you the sex of the baby, so she hoped for 9+ months.
After an extra long pregnancy, my “birthday” came. Nine pounds and 10 ounces of “all girl!” Everyone kept telling her, it was for the best since she already had lots of “girl” clothes from my sisters, and my mother was especially good at making us look like girls with the frilly dresses, and night-time curlers in our hair. That was because hot rollers and curling irons hadn’t been invented yet!
Now, as the third child, you know I had enough of the frilly dresses, so around 12 years old, I decided to become a bit of a tom-boy. Blue jeans soon became all colored jeans, and I think I had every color in the spectrum. I loved those multi-colored Levi jeans and my Converse sneakers! As a minister’s child, I had to wear a dress to church, and that was the only time I did!
I played tennis, took swimming lessons, rode my bicycle, and did gymnastics in the street, jumped rooftops, and dressed as unfrilly as I could! I even took accordion, piano, and clarinet lessons because my parents made me! My sisters and I all had to be part of the school Marching Band, but I rebelled! I decided, NO MORE clarinet lessons for me, and NO MORE Marching Band!
The Chorus Teacher at High School asked if I was someone’s sister and if I played the piano, and I said yes, so she taught me how to accompany the Chorus during and after school. She was young, and very kind to me, even taking me to work after school, so I could keep buying myself those ungirly jeans and sneakers. I practiced my piano part for the Chorus Music every day, especially when no one was home. I would even sing and play, and sometimes I would hear noises outside and notice the neighbors sitting out on their porches! They were my neighborhood audience!
It was then that I learned how to dress like a girl. We had to wear Formal Chorus outfits. They were long, formal dresses. It never bothered me one bit, since I had an important job to do, playing those 10 and 12ft. Concert Grand Pianos at concerts and competitions. I think that was when I decided it was ok to be a girl!
Before long, I headed out to college to become a Music Teacher so I could teach others to play the piano, just like my Chorus Teacher did for me. It was in college that I became a Chorus and Piano Teacher, yet still a Chorus Accompanist! My life was never the same after I left home to study, and I never really went home again for long. I had found my calling!
In case, you are wondering … My Mother did have a 4th child! Sorry Mom! Another Girly Girl for you, since you did such a good job with the others! She never had that boy of her own, so GOD gave her 3 Grandsons! Oh, WOW, did she spoil them!
She waited a long time for those boys…
It is so hard for me to wake up early. I am just NOT a Morning Person. It is a good thing someone discovered a way to brew coffee, or I would be even worse!
Just a couple days ago, even though I set four alarms on my phone, I still managed to leave late for an early morning Church Service. When I finally got out the door, ten minutes past my ideal travel time, my car was covered in a sheet of ice. Yep! I had to get out the ice scraper, making me even later.
When I finally got to church, though 15 minutes early, I needed to introduce some new songs. I wanted to make it special, so I used my CD player instead of the piano. Come to find out, the church was so cold, my comrades told me the music was WAY TOO LOUD due to sympathetic vibration.
Then, when the singer told me she needed to transpose down a couple of songs, I redialed the transposer UP one for the first song. I didn’t notice until after the intro, and I had to just leave it alone. I’ve never done that song in that key before! All the while, I was freezing cold, praying my way through, trying to wake up. It seemed like every bone in my body hurt from the cold!
When I decided I better take the CD player and put it away, I moved the button to the radio position, and it blasted out in the middle of the Statement of Faith. No one said anything, and I asked if they heard it, and they said no…… all the while I was thinking, HOW COULD THEY HAD NOT HEARD IT? It was LOUD !!!!
So before the second service, I went to my car to get some French vanilla coffee, warmed it up in the church kitchen, and went back to my car to drink my coffee and eat a Cookies and Cream poptart, and an apple! Then I got a call that a singer for the next service was sick, and the scheduled singer had already called to take the day off because it was her birthday.
I just kept reminding myself that JESUS is Worthy!
All the while, I just kept praying …. and the second service was beautiful!
It turns out that even my phone was glitched and I wasn’t able to access, or get any other messages. The next day, I finally reset the cellular data, and then I got all these messages … THANKS BE TO GOD for His FORGIVENESS and MERCY!
When I was young, I really didn’t understand the 10 Commandments given to the Hebrews through the prophet Moses. Many generations have continued to stress their importance in living a life that respects GOD and others.
I love reviewing them and applying them to my thoughts and actions. Though I am far from perfect, I feel that the 10 Commandments help me stay accountable to GOD and keep me on track with HIS WAYS!
I am including them for me, and you, in the old fashioned King James Version. Open your heart, and your mind, and see if these ancient commands from GOD help you live a life that keeps you in GOD’s Ways too!
The 10 Commandments from Moses can be found in Exodus 20:3-17
Verse #3: Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
4Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness [of any thing] that [is] in heaven above, or that [is] in the earth beneath, or that [is] in the water under the earth:
5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God [am] a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth [generation] of them that hate me;
6 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
7 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
This commandment includes this like OMG, and JESUS!
8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
10 But the seventh day [is] the sabbath of the LORD thy God: [in it] thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that [is] within thy gates:
11 For [in] six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them [is], and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
12 Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
13 Thou shalt not kill.
14 Thou shalt not commit adultery.
15 Thou shalt not steal.
16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.
17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that [is] thy neighbour’s.
May the LORD bless you and Keep you ~Numbers 6:24
I love focusing on the Bible when my mind and heart are troubled. The Psalms especially give us words to pray, and words of advice and encouragement in stressful times. Here is PSALM 37 (NKJV) … full of Bible Promises! Just Believe and Pray!
Do not fret because of evildoers,
Nor be envious of the workers of iniquity.
2 For they shall soon be cut down like the grass,
And wither as the green herb.
3 Trust in the Lord, and do good;
Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness.
4 Delight yourself also in the Lord,
And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
5 Commit your way to the Lord,
Trust also in Him,
And He shall bring it to pass.
6 He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light,
And your justice as the noonday.
7 Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him;
Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way,
Because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass.
8 Cease from anger, and forsake wrath;
Do not fret—it only causes harm.
9 For evildoers shall be cut off;
But those who wait on the Lord,
They shall inherit the earth.
10 For yet a little while and the wicked shall be no more;
Indeed, you will look carefully for his place,
But it shall be no more.
11 But the meek shall inherit the earth,
And shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.
12 The wicked plots against the just,
And gnashes at him with his teeth.
13 The Lord laughs at him,
For He sees that his day is coming.
14 The wicked have drawn the sword
And have bent their bow,
To cast down the poor and needy,
To slay those who are of upright conduct.
15 Their sword shall enter their own heart,
And their bows shall be broken.
16 A little that a righteous man has
Is better than the riches of many wicked.
17 For the arms of the wicked shall be broken,
But the Lord upholds the righteous.
18 The Lord knows the days of the upright,
And their inheritance shall be forever.
19 They shall not be ashamed in the evil time,
And in the days of famine they shall be satisfied.
20 But the wicked shall perish;
And the enemies of the Lord,
Like the splendor of the meadows, shall vanish.
Into smoke they shall vanish away.
21 The wicked borrows and does not repay,
But the righteous shows mercy and gives.
22 For those blessed by Him shall inherit the earth,
But those cursed by Him shall be cut off.
23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord,
And He delights in his way.
24 Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down;
For the Lord upholds him with His hand.
25 I have been young, and now am old;
Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken,
Nor his descendants begging bread.
26 He is ever merciful, and lends;
And his descendants are blessed.
27 Depart from evil, and do good;
And dwell forevermore.
28 For the Lord loves justice,
And does not forsake His saints;
They are preserved forever,
But the descendants of the wicked shall be cut off.
29 The righteous shall inherit the land,
And dwell in it forever.
30 The mouth of the righteous speaks wisdom,
And his tongue talks of justice.
31 The law of his God is in his heart;
None of his steps shall slide.
32 The wicked watches the righteous,
And seeks to slay him.
33 The Lord will not leave him in his hand,
Nor condemn him when he is judged.
34 Wait on the Lord,
And keep His way,
And He shall exalt you to inherit the land;
When the wicked are cut off, you shall see it.
35 I have seen the wicked in great power,
And spreading himself like a native green tree.
36 Yet he passed away, and behold, he was no more;
Indeed I sought him, but he could not be found.
37 Mark the blameless man, and observe the upright;
For the future of that man is peace.
38 But the transgressors shall be destroyed together;
The future of the wicked shall be cut off.
39 But the salvation of the righteous is from the Lord;
He is their strength in the time of trouble.
40 And the Lord shall help them and deliver them;
He shall deliver them from the wicked,
And save them,
Because they trust in Him.
REMEMBER, ELOHIM … the LORD of all creation is in control ! Tell JESUS, the Messiah what is troubling you, and ask Him to pray for you and the person who is troubling you…. then WAIT as you pray. Your solution is on its way!
MARANATHA (The LORD of Justice will come)
AMEN! (so be it)
As I was on my prayer walk with my poodle, the LORD allowed me to see His Angel! He had a torch in his hand … He brought me GOD’s reassurance and comfort!
This is the story in my mind and heart, for all those abused or neglected by someone in authority over them, who had the ability and resources to help them !
Luke 16:19-31 (NIV)
The Rich Man and Lazarus
There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day. At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores and longing to eat what fell from the rich man’s table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores.
The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham’s side.
The rich man also died and was buried. In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side.
So he called to him, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.’
“But Abraham replied, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony. And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been set in place, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.’
“He answered, ‘Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my family, for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.’
“Abraham replied, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets; let them listen to them.’
“‘No, father Abraham,’ he said, ‘but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.’
“He said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.’”
If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all men. Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. “But if your enemy is hungry, feed him, and if he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.”
~The angel of the LORD reminded me to send The Peace of CHRIST to all of you reading who have been neglected or abused by those in authority~
OK, Maybe ~SECOND CHANCES~ is the wrong term. Maybe it should be as many chances as Forgiveness, Grace, Mercy, and Determination allows!
A famous proverb and poem by T. H. Palmer reminds us that:
“Tis a lesson you should heed, If at first you don’t succeed, Try, try again;
Then your courage should appear, For if you will persevere,
You will conquer, never fear, Try, try again …”
Just remember that…
1. The Registry of Motor Vehicles allows retakes on Driver’s Permits, and Licenses.
2. Thomas Edison took 1000 tries to create the “incandescent bulb” replying: “I didn’t fail 1,000 times. The light bulb was an invention with 1,000 steps.”
and Even if it is NOT EASY to learn new things,
We need to step out of our comfort zone, to take a risk, to take a chance, to open a new door. So, if we, or someone falls, or fails at a task… perhaps all we need is a little encouragement, another chance, or someone to reach out their hand to us and say…
Maybe You Should Just Try Again !
Look around. Look at everything. Notice the people and the things of nature. Look at the sky, the clouds, the sun, the stars, and the moon. Ponder the variety of shrubs, flowers, trees, and birds. Think about the mountains, the canyons, the deserts, the rivers and lakes, and the oceans. Think about the animals, and the insects, and other living creatures. Someone created them. They are not an accident formed by bacteria and viruses. There are far too many beautiful people, places, and things for them to be a random act of nature.
I am in wonder and awe at the mere thought of The ONE who created everything. Everything is part of an enormous plan. Each person, place, and living thing has a Divine Purpose. Great and small, GOD created them.
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. ~Genesis 1:1
So many people try to make everything perfect. I remember when I thought I could make everything perfect. The older I got, the more frustrated I became. It took a while for me to realize, Life on earth is not meant to be perfect. I do not have to be perfect. That is not what GOD planned for anyone. He knew we could learn from our mistakes, and our lack of abilities. That is why He created others to help us.
God created man in His Own Image, In The Image of God created He him;
male and female He created them.~ Genesis 1:27
Notice, GOD didn’t create two Adams, or two Eves. Nor does He make mistakes. He created us to have dominion over the earth, and enjoy the beauty of His Creation. In the early days, there were no laws or commandments. Life was simple and pure. Caring for the things of nature, and each other was the way of life. God loves His creation so much, that He doesn’t want to force His Ways upon us. He wants us to choose to seek Him, and to want to know Him. But mankind was stubborn like animals, and made so many bad choices, that GOD wanted to start again. Those were the Days of Noah, and the Great Flood.
Genesis 5:5-8 tells us: The LORD saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time. The LORD regretted that he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled. So the LORD said, “I will wipe from the face of the earth the human race I have created—and with them the animals, the birds and the creatures that move along the ground—for I regret that I have made them.” But Noah found favor in the eyes of the LORD.”
Too many people try to impress others with their goodness, and their abilities. I am more concerned with what GOD thinks of me than any person on this earth. Fear GOD, not mankind. He created us, and He knows when it will be time for our time on earth to be over. Noah was mocked for following GOD. But GOD had a Plan!
Genesis 6:13-22 says: So God said to Noah, “I am going to put an end to all people, for the earth is filled with violence because of them. I am surely going to destroy both them and the earth. So make yourself an ark of cypress wood; make rooms in it and coat it with pitch inside and out. This is how you are to build it: The ark is to be three hundred cubits long, fifty cubits wide and thirty cubits high. Make a roof for it, leaving below the roof an opening one cubit high all around. Put a door in the side of the ark and make lower, middle and upper decks. I am going to bring floodwaters on the earth to destroy all life under the heavens, every creature that has the breath of life in it. Everything on earth will perish. But I will establish my covenant with you, and you will enter the ark—you and your sons and your wife and your sons’ wives with you. You are to bring into the ark two of all living creatures, male and female, to keep them alive with you. Two of every kind of bird, of every kind of animal and of every kind of creature that moves along the ground will come to you to be kept alive. You are to take every kind of food that is to be eaten and store it away as food for you and for them.” Noah did everything just as God commanded him.
Noah knew he had to obey the voice he heard. He had to trust in The ONE he has never seen. He just knew in his heart that THERE WAS A PLAN, and though others did not believe, He DID! He knew Someone created everything around him, and had the power to destroy it anytime He wanted. Until we learn to Fear GOD, The LORD, The Creator of Heaven and Earth, nothing else matters.
That’s really all GOD wants from us, to know Who He Is! The problem is that we really don’t know how unless someone teaches us how. So GOD gave Moses the 10 Commandments. These are found in Exodus 20:1-17
And God spoke all these words:
~I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.
~You shall have no other gods before me. You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.
~You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.
~ Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.
~ Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.
~You shall not murder.
~You shall not commit adultery.
~You shall not steal.
~You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.
~ You shall not covet your neighbor’s house.
~You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”
GOD knows you are not perfect …
Just start with Thanking Him for Who He IS! The LORD,

He hath made His Wonderful Works to be remembered:
The LORD is gracious and full of compassion ~Psalm 111:4
GOD has a special way of fixing things that you never knew were broken. There were many things that changed after my major surgery, for a broken neck. The answers were revealed one by one, and it took about 6 months for me to start to feel better. I remember the day I came home from the hospital. My parents were here to help, and my children were very brave. My oldest son even gave some of his allowance money to buy food.
I couldn’t work, and I really couldn’t move very well for a good 4 weeks. I also couldn’t breathe well, and had to go to the hospital often for oxygen therapy. I also went back to physical therapy for a while. After a neurosurgeon had completed his task, he told me to go back to my primary care doctor. The surgeon had discovered that though the neck was healing well, there was a HUGE Issue slowing down my recovery.
My primary care doctor, who was also a pulmonary specialist, told me that the neurosurgeon had discovered that my lungs were scarred. I lost count of how many times he asked me if I smoked, or used to smoke, and I reassured him that I was never a smoker. Then he told me that I had COPD, because my lungs had been damaged from adverse environmental conditions, and that asthma medicine could help. He also reminded me that exercise is the best medicine. Oh WOW, was I glad to hear that, because, I love to ride my bike, and go swimming.
After years of struggling to feel better, I am now almost symptom free. I very rarely need any asthma medicine, and choose to sing and dance, walk my puppies, swim, and ride my bike as much as possible. But through it all, I grew very close to GOD.
I think that was what GOD had in mind the whole time.
~The LORD is with you when you are with Him. If you seek Him, He will be found by you~ 2 Chronicles 15:2
~Do not remember the former things, Nor consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing,
Now it shall spring forth; Shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness And rivers in the desert~ Isaiah 43:18-19
~Come, let us return to the LORD. He has torn us to pieces but He will heal us; He has injured us but He will bind up our wounds~ Hosea 6:1
I will never forget how that wind of air surrounded me when I awoke from surgery.
The Spirit of God has made me, And the Breath of the Almighty gives me life. ~Job 33:4
The first thing I do when I wake up in the morning is to look at my picture of JESUS CHRIST on my wall. When I awoke this morning at 5 am, and looked at the picture I was seeing double. That means I was seeing two pictures of JESUS. I’m thinking, “oh Great, I’ve got Double Vision today!
After going downstairs to get some hazelnut coffee, I climbed back in my bed to sip my coffee with my eyes closed. Then I said, “Good Morning Abba FATHER, Good Morning JESUS, and Good Morning Holy SPIRIT,” and thanked GOD for protecting me thru the night. Then I asked JESUS to be my strength.
On my way home from a “crack of dawn music rehearsal” I thanked JESUS for being my strength, and I thanked GOD for getting me home safely. Then I realized that our region is suffering from invisible ice, and I didn’t even realize how bad it was until I returned home to catch up with my twitter friends.
Then it hit me! Someone had just prayed a “double portion” over me last night! That would mean that when I woke up, I got a DOUBLE PORTION of JESUS with my DOUBLE VISION! So when I asked JESUS to be my strength, I GOT DOUBLE the Strength!
~The LORD IS my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in Him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise Him~ Psalm 28:7
~Instead of your shame you shall have double; and instead of confusion they shall rejoice in their portion: therefore in their land they shall possess double: EverLasting JOY shall be unto them~ Isaiah 61:7
HOW GREAT IS OUR GOD! “Who does GREAT things and unsearchable; Marvelous Things without number” ~Job 5:9
